Vintage Trailer Awning Rail Purchase and Installation

I receive many questions from vintage trailer owners who would like to purchase a vintage look awning, but do not have a 3/8' diameter c-channel awning rail intalled on their trailer. For your convenience, I have researched recommended products for installing an awning rail, and an online source for a variety of awning rails. Proper awning rail installation is critical to prevent water leakage through the screw holes, where the awning rail attaches to the side of the travel trailer. My understanding is; that by applying butyl tape to the backside of the awning rail, and then applying Sikaflex 221 to the top edge and sides of the awning rail, once it is screwed in place on the trailer, plus covering every rivet or screw head with the adhesive sealant is what is recommended. Apparently the Sikaflex 221 will not damage Aluminum trailers, yet other clear, silicone, waterproof sealants can. Be sure to do further research, but I though this might be helpful.

About Me

My photo
Sweet and Lovely Wife
Being artistically inclined,I love working with all of the beautiful Sunbrella colors and patterns while making vintage trailer awnings. My husband's interest in vintage cars, eventually led to my interest in vintage trailers. We now own a 1967 Ranchero and a 1968 Avion trailer. His ebay vintage car parts listings occasionally include one of my awnings. To be sure nobody thought HE made the awning,he added; "This was designed and sewn by my Sweet and Lovely Wife". Hence, my name on Blogspot!
