Vintage Trailer Awning Fabric Is Now Here

Marine Grade Awning Fabric for a New Custom Made Vintage Trailer Awning

I just picked up my Spring Marine Grade Awning Fabric today.I was able to find some of the classics, that I have purchased in the past such as Teal/Natural and Pacific Blue/Natural. I also purchased some neutral colors, such as shades of beige, tan, brown, plus some green. I still have Yellow/White left over from my Fall purchase as well.

Update 2022: As I am updating my Blog from 2013, for modern mobility viewing. In doing so, I am adding pictures of vintage trailer awnings that were made by Vintage Trailer Awnings by Kristi, during that time period, and adding captions to the pictures.

2013 was the year when Vintage Trailer Awnings by Kristi first made front window awnings with a removable supports, plus started adding fringe. dfoster@bellsouth.net

During 2013 the fabric covered pull cord was the normal standard practice to replicate vintage trailer awnings dfoster@bellsouth.net

2022 I still have a roll of the cording that fits a c-channel awning rail with a 3/8" diameter. Occasionally, I will still make an awning this retro way upon request.

It appears from my pictures, that 2013 may have been the year I began making the vintage trailer arched awnings dfoster@bellsouth.net

2022 The vintage trailer arched awnings are the design that I continue to use, and have added this feature to V W Bus Awnings as well.

2013 was the year of prototypes for Vintage Trailer Awnings by Kristi. I experimented making front window awnings with a removable framework, for vintage trailers without Rock Guards.
Because of materials costs plus shipping costs, the front window awnings with support arms and cross bar were quite expensive considering the small size of the awning. Rock Guard Awnings however, were affordable, and easy to use.

This may have been my first Rock Guard Awning, which I made for my own vintage Avion trailer dfoster@bellsouth.net

2013 was a very creative year for Vintage Trailer Awnings by Kristi, Rock Guard Awnings, Front Window Awnings, and switched from Pull Cord Rope and Pole Awnings to using a vinyl welt instead.

2013 was the year that Vintage Trailer Awnings by Kristi began offering a vinyl welt, to slide into the c-channel awning rail, instead of a fabric covered pull cord, on Rope and Pole Awnings.
2022 Reminder to always clean out your c-channel awning rail, before trying on a new awning. It should be part of regular trailer maintenance, because they do get clogged up with dirt and debris.

2013 This appears to be a front window awning, which I made for a vintage camper. I see a glimpse of a support arm and what appears to be the cross bar near the front edge.

2022 If I remember correctly, 2013 was the year that I started adding fringe to the vintage camper awnings. It, of course, increased the cost of the awnings, plus the cost of shipping. I was concerned that the fringe would retain moisture, plus be prone to mildew and fading, so I began to spraying it with with a UV protection and water repellent before attaching it to the awning as a precaution. Sunbrella Marine Grade Awning Fabric has an expected 10 years before showing signs of fading or leaking, so although fringe is beautiful it does require maintenance.

Back in the early years of making vintage camper awnings, Vintage Trailer Awnings by Kristi made her own edge binding, for the scalloped valances, using the same fabric for exact match.

Especially with unusual colors, Vintage Trailer Awnings by Kristi made her own edge binding for the scalloped valances for a perfect match dfoster@bellsouth.net

This is a badge clip, which can be used on the scalloped valances of a vintage trailer awning, to hold up vintage string lights. However , not an awning with attached fringe.
